WELCOME TO CAACS

The Caribbean Association for the Advancement of Curriculum Studies (CAACS) is an association of scholars, educators, philosophers, curriculum workers, and graduate students. It provides a forum for scholarly discourses regarding Caribbean epistemologies and cultural– contextual understandings of curriculum and curriculum products within the global context of the internationalization of curriculum studies. Dr Andrea Baldwin shared the desire to establish a Caribbean curriculum studies association with Dr Carmel Roofe. Not too long after, a group of graduate students within the 2017-2019 cohort at The UWI School of Education pursuing a master’s in education with specialization in Curriculum and Instruction bought into the vision, and CAACS was officially launched with its inaugural meeting on June 12, 2019. During this meeting, the executive body was selected from among this group based on their willingness, strengths, and talents. It is our collective desire that CAACS will remain a magnet for attracting and an engine for mobilizing individuals to research, and disseminate Caribbean Curriculum thought through meetings, seminars, panel discussions, symposia, and conferences and by so doing galvanize support and ideas regarding Caribbean curriculum ways of knowing and doing. Since the establishment of CAACS we have tasked ourselves with collaborating across the Caribbean and its diaspora to shape Caribbean curriculum theory, policy, and practice. To this end we have intimately collaborated with colleagues in Guyana, Trinidad and Tobago, Belize, Cayman Islands, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Barbados, USA, and Canada, and we are looking forward to expanding this collaboration. CAACS is also affiliated with the International Association for the Advancement of Curriculum Studies, and we work closely with the American Association for the Advancement of Curriculum Studies.
